The score stops working the moment your body has a condition the scoring model doesn't know about. A single number for everyone assumes everyone's "good" is the same. With a thyroid condition, it isn't.
Why one score can't work for thyroid conditions
Take iodine, the clearest example the clinical literature offers. Published reviews are blunt that iodine cuts both ways: too much can push a thyroid in either direction, depending on the state of the gland. For Graves' disease, high dose iodine and kelp are established aggravators in susceptible people. So a kelp snack that a generic scanner waves through as a healthy sea vegetable reads very differently depending on whose hand is holding the phone.
It gets worse at the label. One published analysis of kelp supplements (Aakre and colleagues, 2021) measured actual iodine content from 5 to 5,600 micrograms per dose, more than a thousand times apart, out of step with what the labels claimed. A score that trusts the label can't protect you from the label being wrong about the one nutrient your condition cares about most.
And for thyroid nodules, European guidance advises against iodine or selenium supplements without a documented deficiency. "It supports your thyroid" is not a direction; for these nutrients there is no direction that is right for everyone. That is the whole case for reading the label for you instead of rating it, made by the evidence itself.
